AT-related Links
This is not meant to be an exhaustive list - only to point you to some
major sites that have comprehensize and timely info. |
| AT Conference |
|
The ATC is the umbrella organization for the individual Appalachian Trail clubs. There is a wealth of information available on this site, including FAQ's, Trail Descriptions, and an on-line store to order maps and guidebooks. (Hint: If you are going to hike the Trail you ought to become a member, and doing so before you order your maps, etc. will entitle you to a discount.) |
| AT Home Page |
|
This venerable site contains a ton of information and links. |
| AT TrailQuest |
|
Scroll down the page to find a box with an interesting selection of AT topics. The Thru-hike Planning section of this site has good, common sense suggestions regarding gear, food, and clothing that prospective hikers would do well to read. There are many other informative sections. |
| Trail Journals |
|
A large selection of hiker's journals from the last few years. |
| Trailplace |
|
This site always seems to be under construction, though it is certainly ambitious in its scope. |
| WhiteBlaze.Net |
|
A newer site that so far has a large photo gallery and forum. Looks promising. |
Non AT-related Links |
| M.O.A.C. |
|
The Maine Outdoor Adventure Club. Based in Portland, ME (and now also, Bangor) MOAC promotes all types of Outdoor pursuits for people of all skill levels. I have been a member of MOAC for ten years and have found it to be a source of inspiration, education, and fellowhsip. |
| Michael's Ultralight Backpacking Page |
|
Now don't get me wrong, I didn't practice the Ultralight philosophy on my trip. But I wish I had. I saw a lot of interesting ideas on this site, that I unfortunately didn't have time to field-test. |
| Onestep's Ultralight Backpacking Page |
|
This is another good site on ultralight backpacking, and the author is a member of MOAC to boot. |
| The Rant |
|
A website that has nothing to do with hiking or the AT. Some friends that I've known since high school have recently put together a forum for posting essays on politics, culture, and other current events. I'm quite impressed with what they've accomplished so far. Check it out, or even contribute if you are so inclined. |
