60 Foot Research Vessel TIOGA

R/V Tioga arrived at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on April 16, 2004. The latest research vessel built by Gladding Hearn Shipbuilding will provide WHOI with unparalleled capabilities in the inshore and coastal waters of New England. Primary missions will be support of the Martha's Vineyard observatory and deployment of large tripods and moorings. The vessel will also support diving operations and all disciplines engaged in coastal research. TIOGA will also transport gear to be deployed on larger vessels to the continental margin for testing. This vessel is a lengthened version of the Fay Slover , operated by Old Dominion University, and is the third in the series of vessels that are becoming a standard for general inshore and coastal investigations.
