The Flight to Italy

Chris, Pete and I were meeting Tom, who was flying in from California, in Boston, where we would all meet and fly on to Rome together. Then we would take the train to Florence, our first stop.

We watched Tom’s flights on the Internet to make sure he was going to be in on time. Around 10am we saw Tom’s flight from California was canceled and we had no way of knowing where he was.

We arrived in Boston to find that British Airways computers were down and all check-ins were being done by hand. There was no sign of Tom as the flight crew closed the doors on our 6pm flight at 8pm.

We arrived in London too late to make our connection but had no trouble getting rebooked. British Air was even kind enough to check to see if Tom had made the next flight. There records didn’t show him on the list but they said he might still be on the plane.

We arrived in Rome hoping to find Tom but instead found that our luggage was now missing.

We waited two hours to see if Tom would make the next flight, he didn’t and neither did our luggage. We filled out all the luggage forms and told the airline that we were going on to Florence. They assured us that we would get our luggage the next day. We arrived at train station, exchanged our tickets for the next train and settled in for a lovely train trip from Rome to Florence.

We arrived in Florence and walked to our hotel near the train station. When we checked in the man at the desk someone had been looking for us for several hours. Tom had been switched to a flight to Atlanta and then on to Rome, where he took the train to Florence.

All’s well that ends well.
