April 2005
We are studying the Solar System in Science. Students visited the Southworth Planetarium to learn more about the night sky. In our Night Sky Inventory assignment, many students were able to locate various constellations in the winter sky. We made constellation telescopes using paper towel tubes. We are enjoying the many components of our solar system. January Snowball Book Blitz The Read-at-Home Program for the month of January is a friendly reading competition between our class and Mrs. Mackell's second grade. We want to see which class can read the most pages during the month of January and become the snowball book blitz champions. Each week, students will record the pages they read onto a snowball. Snowballs will be posted on our bulletin board in the hallway to eventually build a giant snowman. Our class is off to a great start! As of January 7th, we have over 1000 pages recorded . This special activity reinforces reading and math skills. Students will add their snowball totals individually and as a class using regrouping. You can help support our efforts by encouraging your child to read for at least 15 minutes every evening. Thank you for your continued support. Conestoga Wagons In our social studies curriculum, the class is studying how America grew from 13 colonies. They are learning about early pioneers developing the west. The students are working cooperatively to create a Conestoga wagon using an old tissue box. Historical Biographies DINOSAUR Web Pages
