Though I was born elsewhere, I've lived in Maine most of my life and am very happy to be back <a href="http://www.downeastguide.com/">Downeast</a> rather than living in the crowded confines of Northern Virginia, as I did for several years. I got my advanced education from the <a href="http://www.maine.edu/">University of Maine</a> and my high school education from <a href="http://www.foxcroftacademy.org">Foxcroft Academy</a>. Most of my family (including my brother <a href="http://www.cs.usm.maine.edu/~djohnson/">Dave</a>) live in Maine. One said he rode to carry potatoes. Another cycled to observe the world. A third said it cleared the mind, and a fourth said cycling put him in harmony with all sentient beings. The Zen master was pleased, but when the fifth replied, "I ride my bicycle to ride my bicycle," the teacher sat at the student's feet and said, "I am your student." </td></tr></table> <p>I am an enthusiastic cyclist and a member of the <a href="http://www.bikemaine.org/">Bicycle Coalition of Maine</a>, which is a very effective bicycling advocacy organization that has done much to improve the climate and infrastructure for cycling in Maine.</p> <p><img align="left" alt="" src="images/nvbslogo.gif"/> I also have an interest in bonsai. Though I don't have as much time to devote to it now as I did in the past, I still keep a few trees. When I lived in Northern Virginia, I was a member of the Northern Virginia Bonsai Society, which is a member club of the larger <a href="http://www.potomacbonsai.com/">Potomac Bonsai Association</a>.
