Nicholas B. Dean

Nicholas B. Dean joined the Portland Marine Society in 1988 and holds Certificate number 610. He first went to sea at age fifteen on a research schooner in the North Atlantic. A maritime historian and author of numerous articles on maritime history, his work has appeared in Smithsonian, Down East and other magazines. In 1987 he helped recover the bow of the Snow Squall, the last surviving American clipper ship, from the Falkland Islands and is working on a book on the Snow Squall. In 1995 he received the Maine Historic Preservation Commission’s Historic Preservation Award.
