Captain Charles H. Chase, then the Society’s oldest living ex-president, next read his own biography of Captain John Thorlo and proposed a silent toast to him. At President Deering’s invitation those present rose again and drank to the memory of "all departed members." With the singing of Auld Lang Syne the evening ended. It had been, as the Argus reported, "an allround successful celebration."
