It shall be the duty of the Secretary to notify the members of all meetings of the Society and provide a proper place for the same to be holden at, by mail a written or printed notification of the time and place to each member at least three days previous to such meeting. To collect the entrance fees of new, the arrearages of old, and the assessments of all the members, and pay the same into the hands of the Treasurer quarterly and oftener, if the Treasurer requires it, keep a fair record of all votes and proceedings of the Society; notify committees of their appointments, by furnishing the chairman with an attested copy of the vote, to open accounts between the Society and its members, and produce the book for inspection of the Society quarterly. He shall make a yearly statement of all sums due from the members and present the same at the annual meeting. Immediately after said meeting, he shall make out bills for, and collect all assessments then remaining unpaid. As a compensation for his services he shall receive such payment as the Society shall deem just and proper for the service rendered and in case of the death, removal or resignation of the Secretary, the President shall notify the next meeting, at which a new Secretary shall be chosen.
Article XVI
Committee of Relief,
Their DutiesTo State the Amount of Donations to Applicants.
The Committee of Relief shall consist of
three members, whose duty it shall be to receive all applications on that subject,
and make inquiry into the condition of the applicants and report in writing to the
Society, signed by at least three of the Committee, stating the sum, which in their
opinion ought to be granted, subject to the consideration and order of the Society and the
exceptions already made in the 12th article.
Article XVII
Committee of
Observation, Their Duty.
The Committee of Observation shall consist
of three members, whose duty it shall be to receive the communications made them by
the members in pursuance of the 9th article, and likewise all similar observations from
strangers; and the same to arrange into such a system as will be most for instruction and
public utility.
