Article XI

    The Funeral Charges of an Indigent Member to be Paid by the Society Not Exceeding $150—Members to Attend the Funeral of a Deceased Member if Requested by his Friends.
    On the decease of any member of this Society whose circumstances are insufficient to allow the expense of a decent burial (or interment) the President and Committee of Relief are empowered to allow therefore a sum not exceeding one hundred fifty dollars. The President shall notify the family of any deceased member that the Society will attend the funeral if desired; in which case
it shall be the duty of the members to attend the funeral of such deceased member, timely notice of which shall be given by the Secretary.

Article Xll

    Duties of the President—He can Grant Relief to the Indigent Members or Widows not Exceeding $100, on Application of Committee of Relief.
    Direct the Secretary to Pay all monies Voted—and Call a Special Meeting at his Discretion, or on Application of Five Members.
    The President shall keep the charter of the Society, the bonds and receipts of the Treasurer; he shall prepare, arrange and present the business to be laid before them at each meeting. All addresses to the Society shall be made through him, and by him communicated to the Society, and answers returned by him. He shall regulate the meetings in accordance with Cushing’s Manual of Parliamentary Practice; keep order among the members, and on an equal division of any question have the casting vote. He shall have power to grant relief to any distressed members or widows, on application signed by three of more of the Committee of Relief, in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars to any one applicant. He shall authorize the Treasurer to pay all monies voted by the Society for any purpose whatever in checks drawn upon the bank where the deposits are kept, the same to be countersigned by the President, or Vice President, or one of the Finance Committee. He shall call special meetings of the Society whenever he is requested in writing, signed by five or more of the members, stating the object of said meeting, at his discretion, and shall require all maritime members to comply with the ninth article. He shall also see that candidates are admitted, only in compliance with Article XX.
