All true Christians are ‘Zionists’ - in truth, you can’t be a Christian without being a ‘Zionist’!
To be anti-Zionist is to be found not a Christian (in it’s strict sense) and not one of God’s elect. To be born again (from above) - is to be inducted into the true city of Zion. But this was not a new concept when the Hebrew writer laid it out for us. Isaiah portrays the true Zion of God - which is of necessity the very people of God - (Isa.60:14 61:1-3 62:1-2,12 65:18,19 66:10,20) God calls his people the ‘city of God’ which is His Zion. The writer to the Hebrews took the liberty (as Paul and the other Apostles often did when writing to the church) of declaring "this is that", i.e., what the prophets spoke of find there fulfillment in Christ and His coming (Heb. 12:22-24).Whatever our weak understanding might grasp of those passages between Isaiah chapters 59 through the end of the book... the Hebrew writer crystallizes for us in these words... "But you are come to Mount Zion...". The child of God who are also called the children of Light (Jn.12:36, Ehp.5:8) can see this- and will cling to it’s very truth. Everything, then, in the old testament was a shadow of.. ‘the good thing to come’. Even David himself acknowledged the ‘shadowy’ existence of the earthly realm and types in which he lived and was surrounded by (1 Chron.29:14,15).
Our Lord Jesus was that very good thing to come, in which David looked forward to, and He is the substance of the shadows that the old testament pictured. The tabernacle - the sacrifice - the worship - the priesthood - the temple - were all shadows and types. Jesus Christ is the fulfillment and substance of all those things - as the Hebrew writer affirms, "we have a better...!" Jesus said it this way... "Search the scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; for it is they that testify of me."Life isn’t found in the scriptures... this may shock you at first glance! But consider the scribes and Pharisees of Christ’s time, and the many today who can quote the scripture forward and backwards.
Life is found in Jesus Christ...‘He is Life’. If the doctrine we hold isn’t centered in Jesus Christ; if we can’t see our Lord in the middle of it... then we need to throw it out. This then becomes a matter of life and death.
We must defend the truth of scripture; to contend for the faith- it’s the Church’s standing order. ‘Bad’ doctrine had already infiltrated the church before Paul had a chance to die. We need not be surprised at the depth of the corruption and the many false gospels and other Jesus’ that has plagued the church these past 2000 years! But the promise of God’s word is, that God’s people will persevere - and the promise to be conformed to ‘His image’ remains for all true Christians. To His Glory and power as He reigns in our hearts.. for to reign with him; is to Persevere; to persevere is to reign with Him; and so it is in the Kingdom of God!Sovereign Grace Chapel Home Page
