Gorham Trails Land Trust Road Race 2008 Announcement
Plans for the Sevententh Annual Gorham Trails 5K Run and 1K fun run are underway. The race will be held on August 23rd.
Tom LaNigra is director of the event this year. He is assisted by Bob Frazier, Laurie Bem Frazier, and Jeff Merrill. Gorham Recreation Department provides major assistance. Many local businesses contribute prizes and a host of local volunteers help make this event come together.
Both races will be held regardless of weather conditions. The courses begin and end at the High School. The 1-kilometer fun run for children 12 and under begins at 8:15 with each participant receiving a medal for completing the run. The 5-kilometer walk and run begins at 9:00 with the first 50 registrants receiving a Gorham Trails tee shirt. The top three men and women in the race walk will receive awards. The top three male and female runners in several age categories will receive prizes with a plaque going to the first male and first female finisher overall. Prizes will be awarded at 9:45.
The record on this wheel-measured course is held by Bob Winn (15:18) and Sheri Piers (17:52). As an added incentive this year we are offering a $100 dollar prize to the man and/or woman who sets a new course record!
