              Republicans Can Wish All They Want,

Halliburton Will Not Go Away

Washington, DC - Senior Bush advisor Matthew Dowd revealed today that rather than try to explain Dick Cheney’s relationship to Halliburton and the special favors Halliburton has received, Republicans are wishing Halliburton would just go away. Clearly with so many unanswered questions, and the Bush-Cheney record of wrong choices that benefit their special interest friends rather than the middle class, Halliburton will not be going away.

Matthew Dowd: I don't think it was that personal. I mean, I think there were some personal attacks on Halliburton, that every time John Edwards got backed in a corner he brought up Halliburton, which I don't think voters care about, I think it was a discussion of the issues, he had subst….

CB: You don't think voters care about Halliburton?

Matthew Dowd: I don’t think voters..

CB: I think Cheney has been certainly linked to the company enough and when people hear that Halliburton benefited as a company from the war in Iraq, I think that certainly raises a lot of voters' questions.

Matthew Dowd: I don't think voters could give a care about Halliburton and what else the Kerry campaign wants to talk about. I think they care about health care reform, I think they care about what are we doing in the war on terror, I think they care about how the economy is growing, they don't care about Halliburton.
