 Sound System

I am really happy with this setup.  Since this is a street car, a driver, I wanted a system with lots of thump.  I favor the 60's to early 70's music.  Bands like Steppenwolf, Super Tramp, Queen, Doobie Brothers, etc.  I like it loud with lots of pounding bass.

My home system is built around a Nakamichi tuner so I wanted the same for my car.  The head-unit is not flashy or have lots of lights and gadgets.  It does however, have about the finest sound quality available.  It is low wattage since it is designed to be used with external amps.

There are two amps in the system. One for the subwoofer and a second for the satellite speakers.  The 1,000 Watt Earthquake amp is a nice piece with plenty of power and very crisp clean sound.  The 600 Watt JBL is a garden variety amp but does a nice job pounding the sub.  With a combined 1,600 watts there is enough power to shack the car apart.

The Infinity Kappa Perfect 12.1 Subwoofer is excellent.  It is not as good as JL, but is the next best thing.  The sub hits hard and has beaucoup power handling.  My thanks to Tony and Jim Oldani for designing the down-firing enclosure.  With their design I was able to build the 1 cu. ft. enclosure.  The down-firing box really adds to the bass thump.

Since my guitar playing days I've always favored JBL speakers.  In the music industry JBL and Altec are about the best of the best.  So it was a no-brainer when it was time to select speaker for the Falcon.  I also have JBL speakers as part of my home system.  The new kick panels provided the mount points for the 6.5" speakers and the 6x9 speakers fit on the package shelf.
